July 22, 2013 – Chobe National Park, Botswana
While we were in Victoria Falls we were able to take a one-day trip into Botswana. What we saw and experienced, along with what we’ve heard from other travellers and Africans makes us want to go back to see more.
Botswana is known for its density of wildlife. We saw elephants, buffalo, crocodiles and antelope all simultaneously and pretty much immediately. Our boat and truck safaris were both continuous animal viewing, from the crocodile next to the boat as we pulled away from the dock (my first crocodile) to the elephant herds hanging around near the park exit as we headed home, there was always something amazing to see.
Botswana is also apparently a pretty together country. When was the last time you heard about it in the news? I would submit that you are an African nation, an absence of newsworthiness is a positive. It seems their economy has been pretty stable and they’ve chosen a tourism model that keeps prices and quality high to preserve the experience for the tourists and the environment for the animals.
I’d say the stars of our day in Botswana were the elephants. There were just so many of them! The highlight was a large herd that silently emerged from the trees, came down to drink their fill and then disappeared right back in to the bush.
love this Joyce – touched my heart in many ways – thanks for the pictures!
Glad you enjoyed it Cathie! This was probably my favorite day in Africa, although that is a tough designation to make – at least in the top 3 🙂
