Riga Latvia Cat
This cat is a well known landmark in Riga’s Old Town. Just look for the big yellow cat house and you’ll find it perched high atop the roof.
The statue is actually a form of protest or revenge on a German guild that was once in Riga, or so the story goes. A businessman was denied entry into the guild so he put the cat on his roof with it’s butt facing the guild to show how upset he was. It worked.
The guild took him to court to have the cat removed but they ended up coming to an agreement that he would change the position of the cat and the guild would allow him entry. True story.
